Jesus took our sins and died on the cross for our sins. The purpose of Jesus dying on the cross is to pay the price for our sins and, hence, remove our sins from us and restore our broken relationship with God. This new relationship is called being born again. This restores us to our purpose of creation and existence and, gives us real meaning and purpose for living.
The resurrection of Jesus proves that Jesus has overcome death (or, in other words, death has no power over Him). Now, therefore, because Jesus lives, we can live also. His life in us gives us life. Also, because He resurrected, He is alive today.
